27 May 2017, Fans waiting in line to see different celebrities

So, this past weekend here in San Antonio, Texas we had the 5th annual Alamo City Comic Con (ACCC), and it was not too bad.  This was the fourth ACCC that I have gone too, and compared to my other visits, this one would rank as my second favorite so far.

Last year I was treated to a Doctor Who year and was able to see David Tennant, Billie Piper, and John Barrowman.  This was simply the icing on my 2016.  Now, for 2017, I was a little bummed out on the schedule of the event since it was scheduled only six months from the 2016 show, so saving some extra cash for the event was a pain.  Normally, you would expect to have them spaced out by at least a year and in the past ACCC was held in the fall when it was cooler for the cosplayers, but not this year.  Other than this little complaint, the event was a pretty good event, and I was happy to attend it.

27 May 2017, Val Kilmer’s autograph line

This year my happy moment was getting to greet Val Kilmer.  Actually, it was kind of mixed emotions, due to his recent battle with cancer.  I was surprised that he was able to make it to ACCC, since his battle and as you looked at him, you could see that he has had a pretty big fight with it.  He looked very tired and he had trouble speaking but was able to make eye contact and I could see that he was wanting to talk but I understood the situation.  It was just nice to be able to visit with him and to get an autograph from him.  I do wish him a speedy recovery.

26 May 2017, meeting two Super Troopers

When I arrived at this years ACCC, the first two celebrities that I ran into were Erik Stolhanske and Paul Soter (of the movies Super Troopers, Beerfest, Club Dread).  These two guys are super nice and took some time to chat with me and just talk about normal stuff.  I hope one day soon I can meet the other three members of the Broken Lizard team, but until then I’m happy I was able to meet these two funny guys.

One awesome story to add was midway through the day I was just walking around the vendor’s floor and turned a corner and ran into Paul.  I was surprised that he acknowledged me by my name.  I figured with all the people he was meeting that he would not remember my name, but since I do have a unique name it stuck in his head.  It was just a cool moment for me.

Another fun moment was meeting funny man Josh McDermitt, from the TV series The Walking Dead.  The previous year I was able to meet Michael Cudlitz, from the same show and I was bummed out that I was not able to meet Josh that year, and this year they both showed up to ACCC.  Josh was also another celebrity that took some time to chat with me too.  He also took a bunch of random selfies with me that was too funny.

This year we also had another Doctor Who actress show up, and it was my favorite companion from the show, Karen Gillan (aka, Amy Pond and Nebula).  She was listed more as a Guardians of the Galaxy celebrity since she was here with Dave Baptista.  I was able to get her autograph and shared another special moment due to my name.  I guess there are many people out there that do not encounter the name Jesus (except the main Jesus), but each time I meet someone who has not really encountered someone with my name it becomes a funny moment.  I always simply explain that it’s Spanish and pronounced Hey-Sus or Hey-Zeus.

28 May 2017, meeting Susie Abromeit

Now if you do not recognize this very pretty woman, she is a star from the TV series Jessica Jones.  She plays the main character’s friend Pam on the show, and she is pretty awesome.  I hope she has a great career with acting because she is a super sweet woman and a wonderful actress.  I was able to spend a few mins to talk to her and she was just so down to earth.  I just love meeting people like her.

28 May 2017, Bobby and Hank Hill from King of the Hill

During this years ACCC, I was able to meet one of the artists from the cartoon King of the Hill, Joel Adams.  He did the artwork for the first three years of the show, and I could not pass up a chance to pick up a couple of pieces of his work. This drawing he did was too funny.  I was also able to get his fathers autograph, Neal Adams, who is also a great artist and a legend in the comic book industry.

28 May 2017, Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca)

Meeting a childhood legend Chewbacca was also a nice moment for me.  I was able to meet Peter Mayhew and Ian McDermitt (aka The Emperor) from the Star Wars movies.  Earlier this year I meet by far my biggest childhood hero, Mark Hamill, and getting a chance to add these great gentlemen to my list is just wonderful.

This was just a few celebrities I was able to meet at this year’s Alamo City Comic Con, I could goooo on and on adding more but this is enough for now.  It was just awesome meeting these stars and others like Karl Urban, Rob Schneider, Jon Heder, John Ratzenberg, George Wentz, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman and Micheal Madsen.  Overall, it was a good show this year.  Thanks, Alamo City Comic Con, can’t wait to see what you do in 2018.
