DNA Service 23andme.com

Today’s subject on J.R.’s Realm is on my experience with the DNA service 23andme.com. When I took my DNA test through them, I had a strong feeling that I knew a little bit of my DNA breakdown, but I was shocked at some of the percentages.

To find out that I had sizeable European background was interesting to learn. My last name of Cantu has been primarily found in south Texas and northern Mexico. But when I did some research on the last name, it seems to direct to more Italian than Spanish. I guess that my last name had started in Italy at some point and then moved to Spain. After some time the name moved to Mexico and south Texas.

Putting this puzzle is not an easy project, but I do find it a bit entertaining trying to figure it out. I would love to try and find out more about the Native American DNA, but once again, this will not be an easy task. Since nobody in my family has membership in a specific tribe, it will be a challenge to find out what tribe my ancestors came from.

I’m not going to lose any sleep about not getting my history 100% accurate, but I would love to know more information on what makes me who I am. The advancements in technology will continue to open doors to more information knowledge for us all.

If you are interested in checking your DNA, I would recommend starting with 23andme.com. Keep an eye out for holiday television commercial promotions so you can take advantage of discounts on the services.
